Note: The CDC PLACES data is modeled from state level BRFSS data and local demographic data. Because local demographic data is an input to the model it will naturally be correlated to the measures. Demographic inputs are age, sex, race, ethnicity, education, and poverty. CDC states that it is appropriate, “…to broadly assess health disparities across geographic areas and then examine the demographic composition of those areas to describe the populations to whom the estimates may apply, for example, whether an area is poorer, older, or has a large minority population.”
